Community Compass, Community Connectors, and Organizing for Good

Community Compass is a shared organizing resource provided through Political HQ as part of the Organizing for Good movement. Its purpose is to strengthen civic participation, connect volunteers and community resources, support organizing efforts, and help build infrastructure that can benefit participating candidates, campaigns, organizers, and communities.

Participation as a Community Connector

By accessing, using, contributing to, receiving information from, or otherwise engaging with Community Compass, you acknowledge and agree that you are participating as a Community Connector within the Organizing for Good movement.

Participation as a Community Connector is not limited to supporting a single candidate, campaign, organization, or race.

Community Connectors may independently volunteer for, work with, or support a particular candidate or campaign. However, when using Community Compass or resources obtained through Community Compass, Community Connectors agree that their participation is part of the broader Organizing for Good movement and that they will not use Community Compass solely to advance the interests of one candidate or campaign while withholding, undermining, or intentionally limiting support for other participating candidates or Organizing for Good efforts.

Community Connectors are expected to serve as resources to the broader Organizing for Good network when reasonably able to do so, including sharing knowledge, identifying opportunities, connecting volunteers and organizers, and supporting collaborative organizing efforts across races and communities.

Use of Community Compass Information

Information, contacts, resources, volunteer connections, organizing intelligence, community knowledge, and other data made available through Community Compass may be used only for purposes consistent with Organizing for Good.

Community Compass information must not be used to:

  • Undermine, sabotage, interfere with, or intentionally disadvantage another participating candidate, campaign, organizer, Community Connector, or Organizing for Good initiative.
  • Extract volunteers, contacts, resources, or information for the exclusive benefit of a single candidate or campaign in a manner inconsistent with the broader purpose of Organizing for Good.
  • Restrict, conceal, or withhold shared organizing resources for the purpose of creating an unfair advantage for one participating campaign over others.
  • Sell, rent, license, commercially exploit, or otherwise monetize Community Compass data.
  • Build unrelated marketing, advertising, fundraising, solicitation, or commercial contact lists.
  • Harass, intimidate, discriminate against, exploit, surveil, profile, dox, or otherwise harm individuals or communities.
  • Use Community Compass information for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable privacy, election, campaign, data protection, or other laws.

Sharing Information With Third Parties

Community Connectors may share Community Compass information with another person, campaign, organization, entity, volunteer, consultant, or other third party only when that sharing is reasonably connected to an Organizing for Good purpose.

By providing Community Compass information or resources to a third party, the Community Connector represents that the recipient has been informed that the information originated from or is subject to the principles of Community Compass and Organizing for Good.

Any person or entity that receives, accesses, uses, or benefits from Community Compass information through a Community Connector is expected to use that information only for purposes consistent with Organizing for Good.

A Community Connector may not knowingly provide Community Compass information to a person or entity that intends to use the information exclusively for the benefit of a single candidate, campaign, organization, or private interest in a manner that conflicts with the broader Organizing for Good mission.

Community Connectors are responsible for using reasonable judgment when sharing Community Compass information and should not provide access to individuals or organizations they know or reasonably believe intend to misuse the information, undermine participating campaigns, exploit volunteers or communities, or otherwise act contrary to these Terms.

Sharing Community Compass information with another party does not convert that information into unrestricted information or remove the expectations governing its use.

Candidate and Campaign Participation

Organizing for Good is intended to support a broader ecosystem of candidates, campaigns, organizers, volunteers, and communities rather than operate solely for the benefit of any individual campaign.

Community Connectors may maintain direct relationships with individual candidates and campaigns and may dedicate separate personal time or resources to those efforts.

However, use of Community Compass carries an additional responsibility to the broader Organizing for Good movement. A Community Connector may not use their access to Community Compass primarily as a means to recruit, redirect, capture, or consolidate volunteers, information, contacts, or resources for the exclusive benefit of one campaign while disregarding the collaborative purpose of the platform.

Nothing in these Terms requires a Community Connector to provide identical time, resources, or assistance to every candidate. Rather, participation requires a good-faith commitment to the broader movement and a willingness to act as a resource beyond a single campaign when appropriate.

Enforcement

Political HQ may restrict, suspend, or revoke access to Community Compass when we reasonably believe that a person or organization is using Community Compass in a manner inconsistent with these Terms or the Organizing for Good mission.

This may include conduct intended to undermine participating candidates, improperly redirect shared resources for exclusive campaign use, misuse Community Compass data, or provide Community Compass information to third parties who intend to use it contrary to these Terms.
