Overview
The USDA's FY2027 budget request is $20.8 billion, about 19% less than the year before. The plan would fully eliminate several programs, including Community Facilities Grants that help rural areas build hospitals and fire stations, the Rural Business Service that supports small businesses in rural communities, and the McGovern-Dole program that feeds millions of food-insecure children abroad while buying U.S. farm goods. It would also cut agricultural research and Cooperative Extension funding to universities in every state by 75%. Overall, rural communities, farmers, students, and researchers would feel the biggest effects.
