Overview
The FY2027 budget proposes cutting HHS funding by about $15.8 billion, or 12.5%, compared to FY2026. The largest reductions target public health and safety-net programs, including a $5 billion cut to NIH research, a $5 billion consolidation affecting community health centers and mental health services, and full elimination of home heating aid (LIHEAP) and community action grants (CSBG). These changes would broadly affect low-income households, seniors, disabled individuals, medical researchers, refugees, and patients relying on community health and safety programs nationwide.
